Shining light on some dark parts of adoption
I found these on my computer today. Look how tiny he was š. Thatās a 3-month onesie that was swallowing him up.
Iāve been asked, āif youāre a photographer why donāt you post more photos of your baby?ā And the truth is I was scared to post a lot of photos in the beginning. Unfortunately, there is a dark side to adoption and a lot of people are against it. There are anti-adoption groups who do nothing but bash adoptive and hopeful adoptive parents. There are some who had a bad experience with adoption and some who just hate it. Some of them screenshot posts from social media and share it in their group and they all talk about how disgusting we are and how weāre stealing babies from their āreal familiesā or pressuring moms to place their baby. Iāve even seen it go so far as them going to leave comments on the post. For the record, Joseph was not stolen. His bio mom was not forced to place him and we didnāt force her into anything. She made the decision on her own. Iāve had some nasty things said to me about adoption by those ākeyboard gangstersā and you can say what you want about me but that sweet little face is innocent. He was just born into circumstances that werenāt right for him and we were blessed enough to be chosen to be his parents. Life doesnāt always work the way we plan, we werenāt even supposed to start growing our family in Florida. If we moved back to Houston in 2016 or 2017 we wouldnāt be Josephās parents. When heās old enough to understand he may struggle with his story or he may not. We wonāt know until we get there. All I know is he will know heās fiercely loved and protected by us.
We finally filmed our first YouTube video! Weāve been talking about it for years and I just started recording in the car. Solomon and I are answering some of the most frequently asked questions about our adoption. Iāll post the details when itās live on our channel. Hopefully by the weekend. š¤š½
