"I just want to lose weight on my stomach"

Through countless fitness assessments working at LA Fitness I've lost track of people who just "want to lose my stomach". I have to constantly explain to members that your body is one unit, there is no way to target fat loss in one specific area. When you lose weight it is an overall weight loss that comes from the entire body.

Honestly your stomach is a direct reflection of your eating habits: the stomach is the first place you gain weight and the last place you lose it. You can do hundreds of crunches daily and still never have abs. In order to have a flat stomach you have to eliminate the layer of fat that sits on top the abdominal muscles.
How to beat the bulge?
  • Change Your Eating Habits
  1. Eat 5-6 small meals per day. Skipping meals or "cutting back" can cause your body to go into starvation mode. Thinking it is being starved the body will store everything you consume as fat to be used to keep the body running.
  2. Cut out junk food, fast food, sweets, alcohol & sugary drinks (soda, juice, Starbucks..etc)
  3. Eat Low Glycemic Carbohydrates --yes, you can still have carbs! (ie: brown rice, brown rice pasta, steel cut oats, sweet potatoes..etc) Carbs for your body is like gas for your car; its the fuel to keep you going.
  4. Eat Lean proteins such as: Salmon, Eggs, Lean Ground Turkey/Beef, Chicken Breast..etc. Grilled or baked meats, no fried foods.
  5. Don't eat your feelings. If you are a stress eater try to find something healthy to snack on or do something to distract yourself like workout or clean.
  • Workout
  1. Committing to at least 3 hours of moderate - rigorous activity can drastically improve your physique.
  2. 25-30 minutes of strength resistance training. (no ladies you wont get "bulky")
  3. 25-30 minutes of cardio after.
  • Sleep
  1. Try to get close 8 hours of sleep every night.
    1. Muscles recover while sleep.
    2. The less sleep you get the more you eat throughout the day.
    3.
No gimmicks, no magic pill, no get fit quick scheme. Just dedication, clean eating and working out. If you are willing to take the necessary steps to change your health and body for the better you will change your life in more ways than one.
