Daymond J Launch Academy Seminar Review

So scrolling through Instagram I see an ad for this free entrepreneur training event by Daymond John from Shark Tank. It's free so what the heck? I signed up for it. I've been to and watched all kinds of seminars in person and online so I thought this would be good. I am an entrepreneur, Crowned Visuals and Love and Fitness, and I also work with other entrepreneurs. We all have one thing in common; we want to be successful. Plus it was only a few hours out of my day so I figured it couldn't hurt to go.

Firstly, if you're hoping this is your change to meet the infamous Daymond and get a few selfies you will be very disappointed. Daymond does not show up to this event. When we all sat down they turned on the projector and a highlight reel of Daymond's accomplishments were showcased, then what I thought could've been a live stream of Daymond on location. Wrong again. Just a "thanks for coming" video from the man of the hour.  A man by the name of Tim Payne took the stage to tell us he would be our instructor for the free seminar. He basically told us Daymond makes too much money to host free seminars, so he pays his team to do them for him. Makes sense, if I was rich I'd pay someone to act on my behalf in a lot of situations.

Tim Payne was actually pretty good. He told us about what he does, how much money he's made with some deals and how he teaches wealth at an early age to his children and grand children. Me being me I took notes and there are a few things I will implement into my daily life personally and on a business level. The main pointers I took away from this seminar was:
  • Time is precious. - People always assume time is money but those are people who "don't own their time". Time is the one thing you can never get back, you can always make money back. When people are lying on their death beds they don't wish they made more money, they wish they spent the time they had better. With family and friends creating memories.

  • Broke minded people speak and act as if they are broke. Wealthy minded people speak and act if they are wealthy. - They say you are like the 5 people who you spend the most time with, what are the people around you saying? If they are talking about wasting money on frivolous things like club hopping and buying bottles then they are not in a wealthy mindset. If they are conserving so they can buy a home they are in a wealthy mindset. Wealth isn't a get rich quick scheme. It's being smart with your money, using your talents to generate a profit. Start associating yourself with wealthy people and your wealth will grow.

  • When you realize what your time is worth you will stop having time wasters in your life. People and/or things that are of no benefit to you should not be in your life. Family, friends and associates alike. If it is not benefiting you emotionally, financially or personally it needs to be done away with or done in moderation. (eg: TV, clubbing..etc)

  • Find a deeper "why?". Why is it you are doing what you are doing? If your answer is just "money" you will get burnt out and eventually hate it. Find a passion in what you are doing or make what you are passionate about work.
The motivational part of the seminar was very good. Tim showed us photos of his family, wife and 10 kids, and told us about them. He talked about his upbringing and how having a truck driver father pushed him to become wealthy. At the end of his speech came what I was waiting for the entire time, the sales pitch. I thought it would be a book or DVD on how to launch your business but no, it was for the launch academy 3 day "retreat" at the end of the month. The retreat was listed at $4k but if you signed up that day it was around $1,400 and they would only take 25 people. I opted out and made my way to the parking lot. I was hoping there would be some form of a mixer to meet other entrepreneurs but most people just made a mad dash to the parking lot. I did meet a few people in the parking lot that I'll be getting together with so it wasn't a complete bust. If you're going to go just make sure you have some business cards with in case you meet some people you can do business with outside of the retreat.
